Description
Winds of Change, op. 1 notes:
- Not all movements of the piece are required to be performed, but it is asked that if multiple movements are performed that they are played chronologically; for instance, if the performers choose to play movements II, IV and V, it is asked that they get played in that order.
- Walking on and off of the stage at beginning and end of the piece by the bass clarinet player is not required, but it does add a theatrical effect that fits the mold of the story.
- This was put at Grade 6 for a few reasons.
- The piece is long at 15-18 minutes. However, as stated above, not all movements are required.
- It requires professional flexibility from both performers in style, key, meter, rhythm, and dynamics.
- The bass clarinet player uses the whole range of the instrument and extended techniques, such as “slap-tongue” and multi-phonics.
- The marimba player uses the whole 4.3 octave range, and every movement requires at least intermediate four-mallet dexterity.
